The Two Watches I Wear on Rotation: Fossil Nate & Amazfit GTR 4

A man’s watch isn’t just about telling the time. It’s about story, presence, and identity. For me, watches have always carried a deeper meaning — a mix of aspiration, style, and practicality.

I’ve owned many budget watches in the past, but when I finally had the means to buy something significant, I went for the kind of piece I had dreamed of since childhood: a big, bold mechanical-style Fossil. Later, I added a smartwatch to the rotation, because life today demands more functionality — and the Amazfit GTR 4 fit the bill perfectly.

These two — the Fossil Nate Chronograph Analog Black Dial with Grey Band and the Amazfit GTR 4 (Brown Leather) — are the watches I wear daily, depending on mood, outfit, and occasion. Here’s why.

Fossil Nate Chronograph — The Childhood Dream Fulfilled

Why This Watch Matters to Me

Since I was a kid, I wanted a proper, heavy, mechanical-style watch. Fossil, for me, was that brand that screamed style, maturity, and “grown man.” So when I finally reached a stage where I was earning enough to buy a high-end watch — not an impulse, not a hand-me-down, but my own — I invested around ₹10,000 in the Fossil Nate Chronograph. Right now it is of about ₹15,994.

For me, that was huge. Not just the money, but the fact that I was finally rewarding myself with something I had always wanted.

Design & Feel

The Nate is unapologetically big. A 50mm case with bold numerals, a black dial, and a grey strap — it feels substantial on the wrist. Some would say it’s oversized, especially on a smaller wrist like mine, but that’s exactly what I love about it. The weight, the presence, the “statement” it makes.

  • Dial: Matte black with clear chronograph subdials.
  • Case: Oversized, industrial, masculine.
  • Strap: Grey band that balances the dial’s boldness.

It’s not just a watch you wear — it’s a watch people notice.

Why Big Watches Work for Me

Yes, I have smaller wrists and hands. But I’ve always preferred large, heavy watches. They feel like gear, not accessories. When I wear the Nate, I feel its weight throughout the day, and that’s exactly the point. It’s not delicate, it’s not discreet — it’s bold.

Functionality

Being a chronograph, it comes with stopwatch functionality. But let’s be honest: I use it for the look more than timing laps. What matters is that it feels like a proper piece of machinery on my wrist.

When I Wear It

The Fossil Nate is my style watch. I wear it when I’m dressing up, going out, or simply want to remind myself of what it felt like to fulfill that boyhood dream. Every time I strap it on, it’s a reminder of growth — of how far I’ve come from wanting a Fossil to actually owning one.

Amazfit GTR 4 — The Smartwatch That Complements My Life

Why I Bought It

I’ve always liked mechanical watches for their presence. But the reality is, life today is run by notifications, fitness tracking, and smart features. That’s why I added the Amazfit GTR into my rotation.

My first Amazfit was an earlier version. Over time, I upgraded to the Amazfit GTR 4 (Brown Leather) — a smartwatch that balances modern functionality with a classic look.

Design & Feel

The Amazfit GTR 4 doesn’t look like a toy or a “plastic smartwatch.” It has the presence of a traditional timepiece with the functionality of a smart device.

  • Display: 1.45” AMOLED — sharp, vivid, customizable faces.
  • Strap: Brown leather, which gives it a sophisticated edge.
  • Body: Slim, premium metal build that doesn’t scream “tech gadget.”

What I like is that I can wear it to a meeting, and it looks like a real watch — not just a fitness band.

Features That Matter

This watch is loaded, but here are the features I actually use and care about:

  • Bluetooth calls → pick up calls without reaching for my phone.
  • Health tracking → HR, sleep, stress, and SpO₂ monitoring.
  • Sports modes → I’m not using all 150+, but it’s reliable when I work out.
  • GPS → accurate for walks and runs.
  • Music control + Alexa → surprisingly handy.

What’s important is that it does all this without being clunky or ugly.

Why I Like It

The GTR 4 is the daily driver. It’s light, versatile, and keeps me connected. Unlike the Fossil Nate, which is about statement and style, this one is about convenience and function.

When I Wear It

I wear the Amazfit when:

  • I’m working, and I need quick notifications.
  • I’m training, walking, or tracking health.
  • I want a lighter watch for all-day wear.

It fits into the lifestyle side of my day, while the Fossil fits into the expressive side.

Mechanical Boldness vs Smart Precision

Wearing these two in rotation covers everything.

  • Fossil Nate Chronograph → style, presence, statement, personal story.
  • Amazfit GTR 4 → function, fitness, modern convenience.

One is the old-school dream, the other is the modern essential. Together, they balance personality and practicality.

Why Rotation Works

Most men wear one watch until it wears out. But rotating watches does two things:

  1. Keeps them fresh → different moods, different purposes.
  2. Preserves longevity → each watch gets time off, so straps and batteries last longer.

For me, it’s also about switching gears mentally. Fossil Nate reminds me of identity and presence. Amazfit keeps me sharp, healthy, and connected.

What I’ve Learned Owning These Watches

  • Investing feels different when it’s personal. That Fossil wasn’t just ₹10,000 spent — it was proof I could finally afford the watch I’d always wanted.
  • Big watches work even on small wrists. If you love them, wear them. Style is confidence, not conformity.
  • Smartwatches don’t kill tradition. They complement it. Having both makes more sense than choosing sides.

The Rotation in Action

  • Monday to Friday (workdays) → mostly Amazfit GTR 4 for practicality.
  • Weekends or nights out → Fossil Nate Chronograph for statement.
  • Some days, I switch just for the feel. Because sometimes, wearing a heavy mechanical piece is motivation in itself.

For me, these aren’t just watches. They’re milestones.

Together, they cover style and substance. And that’s why they stay in rotation, day after day.

I started MenVice because I felt most men’s spaces were either too over the top or too plain. I wanted something in between — simple, stylish, and real. MenVice leans into dark colours and a darker mood, because that’s what feels natural.
